Inaugurated in 1998, this memorial was designed and created by Reunionese sculptor Eric Pong\u00e9rard with the contribution of writer Pierre-Louis Rivi\u00e8re, who wrote the text <em>Esclaves de La R\u00e9union<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDEVENA\u00ceTRE HEMMNE. ALLER, ALLI\u00c9S. \u00c9CROULER LE TREMBLETROUBLE. MORMUR.<br \/>\nM\u00c9MORTE DE L\u2019\u00ceLE EXAIL\u00c9E ET L\u2019AMER. BONRBONS SU\u00c2CR\u00c9S, ESCLAVOL\u00c9S. ERREBOIS, ARBRES MARCHERRANTS.<br \/>\nR\u00caVIVRE, ANDRIHONOUR, HUMAMHOUREUX DE LA DIVO\u00ceLE MORGABELLE\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If you look at these stones lined up facing towards the town of Saint-Denis, you can see, standing like the prow of a boat, a beautiful stone covered in Creole writing. Close by are other ones of African and Malagasy origins, and further away are those linked to Asia and Europe. The most remote stone is written in French.
