Current situation of research on the life and legal struggle of Furcy Madeleine

As part of the process of the publication of the catalogue for the exhibition L’étrange histoire de Furcy Madeleine (1786-1856) (The Strange Story of Furcy Madeleine: 1786 – 1856), the Villèle Historical Museum organised an external lecture by Jérémy Boutier, in partnership with the Pôle Valorisation et Patrimoine (Enhancement and Heritage centre) of the town of Saint-Pierre.

Jérémy Boutier, legal historian, presented Furcy’s struggles with the French legal system, seen against a backdrop of the colonial society of the period and its actors. He also presented the discoveries made concerning the history of Furcy since the inauguration of the exhibition on 10th December 2019.
