Place of memory

Héva

Place: Salazie – Town square of Hell-Bourg
Date: 2000
Artist: Gilbert Clain
Sculpture – Stone

The statue represents Hevá, Anchaing’s wife, a legendy among escaped slaves who took refuge on top the peak that today bears his name.
She symbolises both the first woman and the first heroine of Bourbon Island.
The statue stands on a pedestal in the middle of a basin. It faces Grand Ilet, another place steeped in history, and home to a monument to Anchaing.
